TIANGCO CALLS FOR MANDATORY TRANSPARENCY IN DPWH PROJECTS FOLLOWING 2027 BUDGET APPROVAL

MANILA — Navotas City Lone District Representative Toby Tiangco is pushing for the mandatory public disclosure of all computations and details concerning Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects to ensure complete accountability in government spending.

Speaking during a television interview on Tuesday, Tiangco emphasized that full disclosure should be the government’s primary priority.

He noted that his proposal covered the mandatory breakdown of DPWH projects across every congressional district, including initiatives suggested by both district and party-list lawmakers.

However, the lawmaker disclosed that his transparency proposal was ultimately rejected by the House of Representatives.

“Hindi ko alam bakit takot sa transparency. Dapat yung transparency, kung wala kang itinatago, kakampi mo yan,” Tiangco stated.

“Yan ang magpapakita sa bayan na tama yung paggastos ng pera dahil pera naman din nila yung ginagastos,” he added.

The push for transparency comes closely on the heels of legislative action on the national budget.

On Monday, October 12, the House approved on third and final reading House Bill No. 10858, which proposes a ₱7.2-trillion national budget for 2027, featuring approximately ₱116 billion in amendments endorsed by the lower chamber’s Budget Amendments Review Subcommittee.
