Acclaimed manga creator Shinobu Ohtaka, renowned worldwide for hit series Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and Orient, is officially returning with a brand-new military fantasy manga titled Geek and Crown (Gīku to Kuran). The new series will begin serialization on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, on Kodansha’s digital manga platform, Magazine Pocket.
Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes royal succession war, Geek and Crown centers on a sharp military protagonist tasked with identifying and eliminating a high-ranking traitor within the ranks before the political factionalism descends into full-blown kingdom-wide chaos.
The upcoming series promises Ohtaka’s signature storytelling style, combining complex political intrigue, tactical military strategy, and deep character development within a richly detailed fantasy world.
Shinobu Ohtaka has built a formidable reputation as one of modern manga’s premier world-builders. Her widely celebrated hit Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic ran in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday from 2009 to 2017, generating a global fanbase, multiple spin-offs, and a highly popular multi-season television anime adaptation.
Following Magi, Ohtaka launched the Sengoku-era demon-slaying fantasy Orient, which ran across Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine and Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine from 2018 until its conclusion in 2024, receiving its own multi-cour television anime adaptation.
With Geek and Crown, Ohtaka returns to the serialized format to deliver another gripping, suspenseful fantasy epic. Global readers can follow the series digitally via Kodansha’s official Magazine Pocket app starting October 27.
