PH ADAPTATION OF PEE MAK PULLS IN ₱40M DURING ITS FIRST WEEK IN CINEMAS

MANILA, Philippines — VIVA Films’ local cinematic adaptation of the hit Thai horror-comedy film Pee Mak, starring the tandem of Bea Binene and Wilbert Ross, has reportedly raked in ₱40 million at the Philippine box office during its opening week.

The studio announced the commercial milestone on October 20, following the movie’s theatrical release on October 14. Strong audience turnout, bolstered by various fan-organized block screenings, helped drive ticket sales as the feature successfully transitioned into its second week across the country.

Capitalizing on the strong opening, the production team thanked moviegoers and urged supporters to keep patronizing local titles. VIVA Films also announced an expanded nationwide theatrical run, pushing the film’s screen count to more than 200 cinemas.

Helmed by director Victor Villanueva, the local adaptation reimagines the 2013 Thai blockbuster originally directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and popularized by Mario Maurer and Davika Hoorne. The narrative weaves together elements of romance, supernatural horror, and dark comedy, drawing deeply from the traditional Thai folklore of Mae Nak Phra Khanong.

Rounding out the supporting cast are Jairus Aquino, Vandolph Quizon, TJ Valderrama, and Gian Bernardino, completing the ensemble that anchors the film’s unique blend of suspense and humor.
