OMBUDSMAN THREATENS TO REMOVE CORRUPT MAYORS IN CAVITE OVER BUSINESS HURDLES

CEBU CITY — Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has issued a stern warning that he intends to strip local chief executives in Cavite of their posts over accusations of corruption, abuse of power, and actions that hinder local business operations.

Speaking before members of Cebu’s lechon industry during a dialogue outlined in an Office of the Ombudsman press release on Friday, October 23, Remulla declared his intent to take decisive action against uncooperative officials.

“I’m gonna remove a mayor or two sa Cavite kasi hindi sila cooperative sa business. Saka nagpapahirap, sobra sa corruption. Abuse of power,” he stated.

While the Ombudsman did not name specific mayors or disclose further details, he stressed that his office would not hesitate to penalize government personnel who extort business owners, intentionally delay permits, and abuse their authority.

Drawing from his past tenure as both Cavite governor and representative of the province’s 7th district before moving to the Department of Justice (DOJ) under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in 2022, Remulla underscored the importance of responsive governance in driving regional development.

“Ang Cavite, ang reputation ngayon, very progressive. That’s because pinagplanuhan talaga natin, tsaka we kept government working for the people,” he remarked, highlighting the province’s economic progress.
