GOOD SMILE COMPANY SHUTS DOWN WEB STORE AND MAIN WEBSITE FOLLOWING MAJOR SECURITY BREACH

Leading Japanese figure manufacturer and hobby distributor Good Smile Company has officially shut down its web store and main website following a significant security breach involving unauthorized access to customer account information.

According to an official statement released by the company, an unauthorized third party exploited a system vulnerability to access internal customer databases.

The security breach exposed extensive account details, including customer names, phonetic spellings, physical delivery addresses, phone numbers, gender, and registered email addresses.

Additionally, customer order histories were accessed, revealing purchase dates, product details, shipping addresses, recipient names, transaction amounts, and payment status records.

While full credit card numbers and security CVV codes were not compromised due to payment processing separation, partial credit card information specifically card brand types, expiration dates, and the last four digits of payment cards was exposed in the intrusion.

Good Smile Company immediately took its website and online shop offline upon discovering the unauthorized entry and initiated a full forensic investigation alongside external cybersecurity experts.

The company has not provided a timeline for when the official online storefront will safely resume commercial operations. In accordance with Japanese privacy regulations, the company formally reported the data breach to Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC).

Good Smile Company is issuing direct email notifications to affected account holders as data verification continues. The distributor advises customers to closely monitor bank and credit card statements for suspicious charges and remain vigilant against phishing attempts claiming to represent Good Smile Company. Account inquiries are currently being handled through an isolated, secure support ticketing system.

Company President Kantaro Iwasa issued a public statement addressing collectors and customers regarding the breach:

“We take this incident very seriously and shut down the Website immediately upon discovering the unauthorized access… We will renew our efforts to ensure thorough security measures and work to prevent recurrence.”

Hobbyists and figure collectors worldwide are urged to stay alert and await further security updates regarding account safety and web store rehabilitation.
