TULFO SLAMS NAIA SECURITY LAPSES AFTER FRENCH TOURIST LOSES MILLIONS IN LUXURY WATCHES

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Raffy Tulfo strongly criticized security shortcomings at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Wednesday, October 28, following an incident where a French tourist fell victim to luggage theft.

The victim reported that his bag, which contained three luxury watches valued at approximately ₱18 million, was stolen right at the Terminal 1 Grab pickup zone. The high-profile theft has sparked serious safety concerns as the country’s primary international gateway prepares for a massive influx of roughly 1.25 million passengers over the upcoming Halloween holiday rush.

During a Senate panel hearing, Tulfo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, challenged airport officials regarding their ability to secure travelers when criminal elements can reportedly operate unhindered within the facility.

“Kung sa loob mismo ng airport premises ay nakakapasok ang mga notorious na mga magnanakaw kagaya nito, paano natin masisiguro ang kaligtasan ng milyon-milyong pasaherong dumadaan dito araw-araw?” Tulfo asked.

In light of the incident, the lawmaker urged authorities to immediately reinforce security protocols to safeguard passengers and their valuables ahead of the peak travel period.
