Filipino stand-up comedian Gil Aducal Morales, widely known as Ate Gay, is in critical condition following a stroke, according to his family.
In a social media statement released on Friday, October 30, the family shared that the comedian was rushed to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) emergency room on October 17 due to breathing difficulties.
”According to his doctors, he suffered septic shock and acute respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia, or a severe infection that affected his breathing and blood circulation,” the family explained.
Following the initial emergency, Ate Gay was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). While he has since overcome the septic shock, he suffered a stroke on October 29 that resulted in damage to the right side of his brain.
”At present, he still relies on life-support machines to support his body’s vital functions. His condition remains critical but guarded,” his family stated.
While mounting medical bills prompted the family to consider transferring him to a different facility, physicians strongly advised against it due to his fragile health. Consequently, he remains in the ICU under close medical supervision.
The family is currently appealing for financial and medical assistance from government agencies, charitable institutions, and private donors to manage the hospital expenses.
Despite the hardships, the family expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of prayers, support, and financial help.
”We understand that everyone has their own struggles and responsibilities. We do not take any of your assistance for granted, and we are deeply grateful for your kindness,” they said, adding, “Despite everything, we continue to hope and place our trust in God’s mercy and grace.”
Ate Gay’s ongoing health challenges follow a series of medical battles, including a stage 4 cancer diagnosis in 2025.
Although he previously completed radiation and chemotherapy treatments—aided by an anonymous donor and a fan who provided a nearby condo unit—and reported clearance from neck and nose lumps following an MRI last June, he now faces this new critical health crisis.
