President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on the Filipino nation to transform the traditional spirit of remembrance during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day into meaningful acts of compassion, kindness, and public service.
Joining the Catholic faithful in honoring the departed, the President noted that families across the country travel long distances to visit cemeteries, offering prayers and celebrating the enduring legacies of their loved ones.
Marcos emphasized that physical absence does not weaken family ties, stating that the memories of those who have passed continue to unite communities and fortify the nation against shared challenges.
”Even in their absence, those we have lost continue to bring us closer together, keeping alive the bonds that have made the Filipino family and the whole nation resilient and strong through challenges,” Marcos said.
The President also encouraged citizens to look to the saints and local community figures for inspiration, urging people to channel their devotion into selfless service and practical assistance for others. He stressed that societal empathy should extend beyond the holidays into everyday interactions.
”If we can make time to revere those who have passed, we can also make room to listen to those who struggle, and let that same concern guide our society and the work of government,” he stated.
Linking these values to governance, Marcos asserted that the administration’s vision for a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) must be defined through genuine deeds rather than empty rhetoric or physical monuments.
”May our efforts in nurturing a Bagong Pilipinas stand as a greater testament to our lives than any words or monuments carved in stone we leave behind,” he added.
Concluding his message, the President expressed hope that the solemn holidays would provide comfort to grieving individuals and serve as a reminder to appreciate living family members.
”May these solemn days bring peace to those who mourn and remind us to cherish those who remain,” he said.
Traditionally, millions of Filipinos observe All Saints’ Day on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2 by visiting cemeteries and memorial parks nationwide to honor their deceased relatives.
