PASAY CITY, Philippines — Marcus Asis of Masbate City and Sophia Nicole Sy of Makati were crowned Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines 2026 during the Grand Coronation Night held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
Established in 2013, the pageant serves as a platform to celebrate Filipino-Chinese heritage, foster cultural understanding, and strengthen community ties. As the newly proclaimed titleholders, Asis and Sy will step into their roles as official ambassadors of Filipino-Chinese culture.
During the final question-and-answer segment, the Top 6 finalists addressed inquiries regarding personal authenticity and family traditions.
Asked how a person can promote authenticity in a world full of expectations, Sophia Nicole Sy responded:
“In a world full of expectations, rather than promoting authenticity. We can start by identifying what our expectations are of ourselves, because my true authentic self wakes up at 11 am and scrolls through TikTok till 3 am. But if we learn to identify what expectations we would want from ourselves, we can mold or shape ourselves into the woman that we want to be. Just like how I learned to be disciplined as a business owner, selfless as an achi and as a responsible woman as your Ms. Chinatown Philippines 2026.”
Marcus Asis was asked whether children should always follow family business traditions, considering the Chinese community’s legacy of passing down wealth and businesses.
He answered:
“I do believe that traditions in the family are very important, but for me, what is more important is following your heart. We can take a different path, a different journey. With our parents embracing the love they gave us. I might choose a different path, but like my mom here, watching, I know that she is so proud of me, even though I chose a different path. She would always love me. I am Marcus, and I would always make you proud, Ma.”
Rounding out the winner’s circle were Gabby King and Clarice Lin, who secured the titles of Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines 1st Runner-up, alongside Ozzie Llige and Monique Angelica Santos, who were named 2nd Runner-up.
