WESTERN VISAYAS RECORDS 26.99% DROP IN MAJOR CRIMES FOR OCTOBER

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a significant improvement in regional security after crime figures in Western Visayas dropped by 26.99% in October compared to the same period last year.

Data from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed that index crimes fell from 163 cases in October of the previous year to 119 cases this year.

PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño emphasized the human impact behind the data.

“Every reduction represents fewer people and families affected by crime, and that is what makes these numbers meaningful. We will continue to build on this progress, while giving attention to the areas where we still need to do better,” Tuaño said.

Breakdown of Focus Crimes

Significant downward trends were observed across most of the eight focus crimes monitored by the police:

  • Carnapping (Motor Vehicles): Decreased by 100%, recording zero incidents.
  • Motorcycle Theft: Dropped by 75%, from eight cases down to two.
  • Murder: Fell by 52.63%, going from 19 incidents to nine.
  • Rape: Decreased by 39.29%, from 28 cases to 17.
  • Theft: Dropped by 28.26%, from 46 to 33 cases.
  • Physical Injury: Declined by 10.53%, from 38 to 34 incidents.
  • Homicide: Decreased by 10%, dropping from 10 cases to nine.

While welcoming the positive data, Tuaño stressed that public safety requires sustained collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities.

“We also ask the public to remain alert, take simple precautions, and report suspicious activities. Keeping our communities safe is a responsibility we share,” Tuaño noted.

“Community cooperation and timely reporting remain important in preventing crimes and helping authorities respond promptly,” he added.
