MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte is in Hong Kong for a three-day visit from November 6 to November 8 to fulfill a series of engagements, including a special gathering organized by the Filipino community.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) announced that the trip has received all necessary legal and administrative clearances. Duterte obtained formal travel permission from the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 98 via an order issued on November 3. In addition, the Office of the President granted a corresponding travel authority for the brief overseas trip.
“The Office of the Vice President respectfully informs the public that Vice President Sara Duterte will travel to Hong Kong from November 6 to 8, 2026, to attend engagements and participate in various activities, including an event organized by the Filipino Community (FilCom),” the OVP stated.
To address potential concerns regarding public expenditures, the OVP explicitly emphasized that all costs associated with the trip are being personally defrayed by the Vice President.
“The Vice President shall cover the cost of her travel using personal funds. No government money, resources, or facilities shall be used in connection with her travel,” the OVP maintained.
The international travel takes place amidst an ongoing political backdrop, as Duterte faces an active impeachment trial in the Senate where her defense team prepares to address allegations regarding unexplained wealth under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment.
The OVP did not release further specifics regarding her itinerary or individual meetings during the Hong Kong visit.
