CHED LAUNCHES 2030 ROADMAP TO REFORM PHILIPPINE NURSING EDUCATION

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has introduced a comprehensive national roadmap designed to transform nursing education across the country, prioritizing enhancements in curricula, clinical training, faculty development, student well-being, and research.

The Philippine Nursing Education Roadmap (PNER) 2030 was officially unveiled on Thursday, November 5, during the CHED National Directorate Meeting. Crafted by the CHED Technical Panel for Nursing in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas (UST), the framework aligns directly with CHED’s ACHIEVE Agenda 2030.

CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis stressed that nursing programs must extend beyond preparing students merely to pass licensure exams. Instead, educational frameworks must focus on cultivating well-rounded professionals equipped for modern clinical environments.

“Nursing education should not be limited to preparing students for licensure examinations but should also equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality patient care.”

Agrupis further emphasized the necessity for future healthcare professionals to cultivate robust clinical competencies, sharp critical thinking, and genuine compassion to address the complexities of modern healthcare systems.

To bridge academic preparation with practical application, the roadmap encourages deeper partnerships between higher education institutions and healthcare providers. These collaborations aim to ensure that nursing curricula remain directly responsive to the evolving requirements of the nation’s health sector.

Ultimately, PNER 2030 seeks to cultivate competent, compassionate, and globally competitive Filipino nurses while bolstering the country’s capacity to deliver sustainable healthcare to communities nationwide.
