NAGA CITY, Philippines — Naga City Vice Mayor Gabriel Bordado has suggested that former Vice President and incumbent Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo make a definitive choice by January 2027 regarding a potential presidential bid in the 2028 elections, ensuring adequate time for campaign preparations.
Speaking in a phone interview, Bordado noted that political strategists familiar with national races have advised an early declaration to prevent the delays that drew criticism during Robredo’s 2022 presidential campaign.
Addressing whether he would support a transition to national politics, Bordado expressed belief that Robredo is currently focused on fulfilling local programs in Naga City rather than pursuing the presidency.
“The visits of ambassadors from various countries reflect good governance and the city’s strict implementation of policies and programs,” Bordado said, emphasizing her effective local leadership.
While Robredo has previously stated she has no plans to seek the presidency and remains inclined toward local governance, Bordado remarked that a national run would greatly delight many Filipinos.
