VP DUTERTE CLAIMS SHE’S 2028 FRONTRUNNER, ACCUSES MARCOS ADMINISTRATION OF POLITICAL TARGETING

Vice President Sara Duterte expressed confidence in her chances of winning the 2028 presidential elections, claiming she is currently the frontrunner and suggesting that this is why the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is targeting her.

In an interview, Duterte pointed to the controversies involving confidential funds allocated to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and her former post as Secretary of the Department of Education, as well as the recent arrest of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, as part of a broader campaign to weaken her.

“I am the frontrunner in the presidential race in 2028. I think they want to eliminate the frontrunner,” the Vice President stated.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro countered Duterte’s remarks, calling them “diversionary tactics.”

“Nawawala po ‘yung isyu patungkol sa kanyang accountability tungkol sa confidential funds at iba pang complaints sa articles of impeachment,” Castro said.

According to the latest nationwide survey by Tangere conducted from June 20–22, Duterte leads with a 35% voting preference, followed by former Vice President and Naga City Mayor-elect Leni Robredo with 19%.
