Senator Raffy Tulfo has confirmed his support for pushing through with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in the Senate, despite previously voting to return the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives.
In a statement, Tulfo said he is against efforts to dismiss the impeachment case outright and believes the Vice President should be given the opportunity to prove her innocence in a proper trial.
“Ayaw kong ma-dismiss. Gusto ko talagang magkaroon ng trial para ma-prove niya sa kanyang sarili iyong sinasabi niyang innocence niya. Give her a chance. Give her a day in court,” Tulfo said.
The senator added that the public deserves to know whether the evidence to be presented by the prosecution is substantial and credible.
According to Senator Joel Villanueva, the impeachment trial is tentatively set to begin on August 4.
