The House of Representatives appears to be turning into a family reunion following the confirmation that Tingog Partylist Rep. Yedda Romualdez will retain her congressional seat.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) confirmed Romualdez’s retention after the resignation of Tingog’s third nominee, Marie Josephine Calatrava, who stepped down due to “personal circumstances.”
She follows the resignations of the fourth and fifth nominees, Alexis Yu and Paul Muncada.
COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia clarified that Romualdez’s assumption of the post is not against the law, as she was included in the original list of nominees submitted during the filing of Certificates of Candidacy in October.
“Halimbawa, nag-resign si 1, papalit si number 2. Namatay si number 3, papalit si number 4. So long as di pa nauubos ang sinubmit satin,” Garcia explained.
Romualdez joins her son, Tingog Partylist’s first nominee Andrew Julian Romualdez, and incumbent Rep. Jude Acidre in the 20th Congress—further cementing the Romualdez family’s presence in the legislative body.
