Despite repeatedly stating he has no plans to seek national office, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto emerged as the top senatorial choice for the 2028 national elections, according to the latest poll released by survey firm Tangere.
The nationwide survey, conducted from July 18 to 20, 2025, with 2,400 respondents and a margin of error of ±1.96%, showed Sotto garnering an impressive 61% of the vote — the highest among all potential candidates.
Senator Raffy Tulfo ranked second with 55.26%, followed by former Senator Grace Poe with 46.05%.
Other names in the Top 8 include:
- Senate President Chiz Escudero
- Senator Loren Legarda
- Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte
- Senator Alan Peter Cayetano
- Broadcast journalist Ben Tulfo
Also making it to the so-called “winning circle” were:
- Senator Robin Padilla
- Former DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos
- Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara
- Former Senator Bong Revilla
- DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian
- Senator Jinggoy Estrada
- Former Makati Mayor Abby Binay
While Mayor Sotto has maintained that he intends to focus on local governance, his consistent high ranking in national surveys underscores his widespread popularity and the public’s growing clamor for his leadership beyond Pasig.
