Kapamilya comedian and TV host Vice Ganda is making headlines after drawing flak from supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The controversy erupted over a comedy skit during her joint concert with Kapamilya singer and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid last weekend, where Vice referenced Duterte’s International Criminal Court (ICC) situation using the tone of the viral “Jet2holiday” commercial abroad.
“Nothing beats a jetski holiday, and right now from Manila to the West Philippine Sea via jetski. Get unlimited water bombing from Chinese vessels and a free trip to The Hague by the ICC. Promo applies to DDS only, Pinklawans and BBMs are prohibited,” Vice quipped in her skit.
Another segment featured Vice impersonating stand-up comedians MC Muah Calaquian as President Bongbong Marcos, Lassy Marquez as former President Duterte, and Tart Carlos as former Vice President and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo.
Some Duterte supporters blasted Vice, claiming she disrespected the former president’s current plight — the 80-year-old is said to be detained at the Scheveningen Prison in the Netherlands.
However, Vice’s defenders called the outrage “hypocritical,” pointing out that many Duterte allies had previously applauded the ex-president’s own controversial remarks — including his profanity-laced tirades against the Pope and God, as well as his infamous “rape” joke: “Ang Mayor dapat muna ang nauna.”
As of now, Vice Ganda’s camp remains silent on the matter.
