WAGE HIKE HEARINGS, TUCP PUSHES 14TH MONTH PAY

Minimum wage earners and household workers in Central Luzon may soon see a boost in their daily pay, as the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) begins public hearings on petitions for a wage increase.

The board announced that consultations will run from September 3 to 19 in Olongapo, Tarlac City, Baler (Aurora), and Clark (Pampanga).
“Interested parties may coordinate with the RTWPB and submit their position papers,” the agency said in a social media post.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) welcomed a separate proposal to mandate a 14th Month Pay for all workers.

“Once this 14th Month Pay Bill is enacted, workers will receive their 13th month pay early or in June and the 14th month pay in December. Families will have money to pay their children’s tuition in June and to buy noche buena on Christmas Day,” TUCP president Raymond Mendoza explained.

He added that distressed companies could apply for exemptions if unable to comply immediately.

Mendoza stressed that better benefits will inspire higher productivity:
“Together, we can make this 14th month pay work not only for our workers, but also for our employers and the country.”
