President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday blasted a ₱264-million rockshed in Tuba, Benguet, describing the project as “useless” and branding it “economic sabotage.”

Marcos, joined by Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong, inspected the rockshed designed to protect Kennon Road from landslides but now mired in doubts over its structural integrity. Kennon Road serves as a vital access route to Baguio City and the rest of the Cordillera region.

“Parang itinapon mo ‘yung pera sa ilog,” Marcos said bluntly.
He added: “So how can you tell me it’s not economic sabotage? Kinuha mo yung ₱260 million, wala kaming nakitang effect… tapos para ayusin yung binigay ninyong problema sa amin, it will cost [probably double].”
While Philippine law defines specific forms of economic sabotage under the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act and the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act, the term has no broad legal definition.
Marcos’ administration has ramped up its campaign against corruption in infrastructure projects, particularly flood control and roadworks, a crusade he first emphasized in his fourth State of the Nation Address in July.
