DOMAGOSO HITS ₱14-B MANILA FLOOD PROJECTS OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS

Former Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has exposed what he described as billions worth of questionable flood control projects in the capital city over the past four years.

According to Domagoso, the projects—completed between 2022 to 2025—were supposedly finished, yet Manila continues to drown in floods whenever heavy rains strike.

“This is the flood control project done in the City of Manila 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Amounting to ₱14 billion done in Manila. Most of it, finished already. Bumaha ng pondo sa Maynila, bumabaha pa rin sa Maynila,” Domagoso declared in a press briefing on Wednesday, August 27.

Domagoso further revealed that the projects had no city permits.

“Itong lahat ng ito ay walang permit sa lungsod. Yes, we are investigating them, and they are also being investigated by the Office of the President,” he said.

The incumbent mayor stressed that the flooding problem affects not just Manila residents but also commuters, workers, students, and business owners passing through the city.

“Bumuha ng pondo sa flood control sa Maynila (₱14 billion) and yet the people of Manila, and those people studying, working, doing business, going in and out in Manila, continue to suffer with the flooding,” Domagoso said.

Reports show there are 1,058 flood control projects across the National Capital Region (NCR), with Manila having the highest number at 215.

In connection with the broader investigation into alleged anomalous flood control projects nationwide, Malacañang announced that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered a lifestyle check on government officials.

“Ipinag-utos ni Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. ang pagkakaroon ng lifestyle check sa lahat ng mga opisyal sa gitna ng imbestigasyon patungkol sa maanomalyang flood control projects,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed.
