DUTERTE YOUTH SEEKS SUPREME COURT TRO AS GABRIELA DEMANDS COMELEC PROCLAMATION

The clash between Duterte Youth and Gabriela intensifies as both groups fight for the remaining seats in the House of Representatives.

DUTERTE YOUTH

On Wednesday, September 3, Duterte Youth filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking to block the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) from finalizing the cancellation of its party-list registration.

In its 34-page petition for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), the group claimed that the poll body “abused its power without sufficient basis and without due process.”

If the court grants the TRO, COMELEC’s decision to revoke Duterte Youth’s registration will be rendered void.

It will be recalled that the COMELEC En Banc earlier voided the group’s registration on the grounds that it failed to clearly define which sector it represented in Congress.

GABRIELA PARTYLIST

Meanwhile, Gabriela Party-list, led by its first nominee and former Kabataan Party-list Rep. Sarah Elago, staged a protest outside the COMELEC office urging the agency to proclaim their win and allow them to assume a seat in the House.

The group argued that with the En Banc decision upholding Duterte Youth’s cancellation, there is “no more reason” to delay Gabriela’s proclamation.

Based on the final and unofficial count of the 2025 party-list race, Duterte Youth ranked second behind Akbayan Party-list with 2,338,564 votes, while Gabriela failed to enter the winning circle, securing only 256,811 votes.
