President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. clarified that he holds no personal grudge against the family of former Senate President Manny Villar, despite recent regulatory actions targeting Villar-owned companies.
The clarification comes after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) revoked the operating permit of Siquijor Island Power Corporation and announced plans to investigate complaints against PrimeWater Infrastructure Corporation. Both firms are under the Villar business empire.
In the fourth episode of his podcast, Marcos stressed that the moves were simply part of government duty in response to public grievances, not a personal vendetta.
“None of these is personal, people have to have electricity, people have to have water, so whatever the reason is let’s fix it,” Marcos said.
Speculation about strained ties between Marcos and the Villar family has circulated since Vice President Sara Duterte endorsed Camille Villar’s Senate candidacy in 2025, despite her being part of the Marcos administration’s Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas slate.
