MMFF WON’T RELEASE BOX-OFFICE RANKINGS TO AVOID ‘BANDWAGON’ EFFECT

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) clarified on Monday, December 29, that it will not release official box-office rankings or earnings for the eight competing films this year.

MMFF Spokesperson Noel Ferrer said the decision follows the festival’s long-standing agreement with participating producers to protect underperforming films and prevent the so-called “bandwagon” effect.

“The MMFF Executive Committee refrains from disclosing official rankings and box office grosses, as per our agreement with the producers, in order to mitigate the bandwagon effect that may potentially impact the performance of our entries,” Ferrer explained.

He encouraged moviegoers to watch all entries, regardless of popularity.

“Instead, we encourage the public to experience and support ALL THE FILMS showcased in this year’s MMFF, thereby demonstrating your unwavering love and appreciation for the Philippine film industry,” he said.

“Since we’re still in a long holiday, we eagerly await your presence in our cinemas. Patuloy pa rin nating suportahan ang ating gawang Pinoy lalo na sa pelikula!!!” Ferrer added.

Meanwhile, according to reliable sources, the family-drama film “Call Me Mother” starring Vice Ganda, Nadine Lustre, and Lucas Andalio continues to lead the box-office race, followed by “Shake Rattle and Roll Evil Origins” and “UnMarry.”
