Film production company TBA Studios has released an official statement following the recent outburst of Ricky Avanceña, the grandson of former President Manuel Luis Quezon, who criticized the studio’s latest film “Quezon.”
The movie serves as the final chapter in TBA Studios’ acclaimed “BAYANIverse” trilogy, which also includes the historical blockbusters “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.”
In a Facebook post published Friday, October 24, TBA Studios emphasized that “Quezon” is rooted in verified historical research and faithful to credible sources.
“While we respect and understand his sentiments, we wish to reiterate that the film is grounded in verified historical accounts, including President Quezon’s own autobiography and other reputable sources,” the company said.
The studio also clarified that while the film incorporates fictionalized elements for thematic storytelling, all historical facts can be verified.
“While the film includes fictional elements for thematic purposes, the facts and details presented in the film are easily verifiable through public records, online research, or library resources,” it added.
To further encourage historical literacy, TBA Studios announced the release of a Study Guide and Companion Book that includes a comprehensive list of references and materials used during the film’s research process.
“We encourage everyone to watch the movie so they can form their own opinions and join the ongoing conversation about the film, our history, and how it continues to resonate today,” the production company said.
TBA Studios concluded by expressing its hope that “Quezon” will promote meaningful discussions about the nation’s past.
“We hope that #QUEZON can continue to inspire meaningful dialogue, reflection, and a deeper appreciation of our nation’s past,” it said.
Avanceña earlier voiced strong disapproval of “Quezon” during a screening and talkback session held at Power Plant Mall in Makati, questioning the film’s interpretation of his grandfather’s legacy.
