WHY “MANILA’S FINEST” IS A MUST-WATCH AT MMFF 2025

Manila’s Finest stands out as one of the most compelling entries of the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)—a crime-drama that blends powerful storytelling, top-tier performances, and timely social commentary.

Set in 1969 Manila, the film follows police officers Homer Magtibay (Piolo Pascual) and Billy Ojeda (Enrique Gil) as they navigate the difficult realities of law enforcement amid corruption, injustice, and moral conflict.

While rooted in a historical period, the film’s themes remain strikingly relevant today—making it a story that resonates across generations.

One of the film’s strongest reasons to watch is its stellar ensemble cast. Led by Pascual and Gil, the movie features seasoned and rising talents including Joey Marquez, Romnick Sarmenta, Ariel Rivera, Rica Peralejo, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Ashtine Olviga, Cedrick Juan, and more—each adding depth and authenticity to the narrative.

The film is directed by Raymond Red, a critically acclaimed Filipino filmmaker known for his thoughtful, visually grounded storytelling.

With a screenplay written by Moira Lang, Michiko Yamamoto, and Sherad Anthony Sanchez, Manila’s Finest delivers a layered narrative that explores duty, patriotism, family, and the cost of integrity in a flawed system.

Produced by MQuest Ventures, in partnership with Cignal Entertainment and Spring Films, the movie continues the studios’ tradition of delivering high-quality, socially relevant MMFF films, following the success of previous award-winning entries.

Beyond its gripping plot and strong performances, Manila’s Finest offers audiences a cinematic reflection of Philippine society—then and now. It challenges viewers to think about justice, accountability, and the sacrifices made by those who choose to serve, making it more than just entertainment, but a meaningful festival experience.

Manila’s Finest opens nationwide on December 25 as part of the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival.
