36 TRANSMISSION LINES STILL DOWN AFTER TYPHOON UWAN

More than 30 transmission lines across Luzon and the Visayas remained offline Monday after Super Typhoon Uwan battered the regions over the weekend, cutting power in several provinces.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that as of 9 a.m., 36 lines were still unavailable as restoration crews rushed to fix damaged facilities.

“Please note that loss of power may be caused by affected transmission facilities of NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives,” the grid operator said, adding that local utilities would determine specific areas affected.

NGCP said teams were deployed for patrols and simultaneous repairs in accessible zones. Major 69-kV lines in Bicol, Central Luzon, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, and CAR—serving CASURECO, ALECO, SORECO, CANORECO and other cooperatives—remained affected.

In the Visayas, key lines serving Northern and Eastern Samar were still partly energized. Several high-voltage lines, including two 138kV, eight 230kV, two 350kV, and one 500kV, also remained down.

PAGASA said Uwan had weakened over the West Philippine Sea and was expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility within 24 hours, though Signal No. 3 remained raised over parts of Ilocos, La Union, and Pangasinan.

Coastal areas from Ilocos to Antique were also warned of storm surges reaching up to three meters.

The NGCP said it would continue to provide updates as restoration works progress.
