3D SCAN SUGGESTS CABRAL SLID, NOT PUSHED – PNP

A forensic 3D scan of the Benguet ravine where former Public Works Undersecretary Catalina Cabral was found dead suggests she slid down the slope rather than being pushed, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday, December 29.

“Makikita nyo na ang layo ng katawan ng victim o cadaver ay around only 0.2 (meters) from the base of the ravine. Kung tinulak ito, chances are lalayo pa siya roon,” said PCOL Pierre Paul Carpio, officer-in-charge of the PNP Forensic Group.

Investigators also noted abrasions on Cabral’s hands and back, consistent with sliding.

“Makikita nyo rito na ang kamay ay may gasgas dito, pati likod. Ang laki ng probabilidad na nagpadausdos talaga siya,” Carpio added.

Cabral, previously linked to a flood control kickback scheme, was found dead on December 19 along Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet. A municipal doctor declared her dead at the scene near the Bued River.

An autopsy revealed she died from blunt traumatic injuries due to a fall from height, with death estimated between 3:00PM and 5:00PM on December 18. Authorities confirmed she had tested positive for an antidepressant and that all forensic examinations, including DNA and histopathology, have been completed.

Cabral resigned from the Department of Public Works and Highways in September amid corruption allegations.
