ACIDRE: ICI TERMINATION DOES NOT END ACCOUNTABILITY

Tingog Partylist Representative Jude Acidre clarified that the termination of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) does not prevent future investigations if new evidence emerges.

His statement came after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remarked that the ICI’s work is “coming toward the end.”

“All conclusions on the ICI were based on the work completed and the records already reviewed,” Acidre said. “The decision was grounded on findings, not percentages, and it does not preclude further action should new evidence surface.”

Acidre rejected claims that the administration ended the ICI to shield allies from accountability in the flood control controversy.

“Claims that the administration is avoiding the truth are unfounded,” he said. “The President has consistently maintained that accountability must be based on evidence, not speculation or political pressure.”

He stressed the importance of allowing the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to fulfill their constitutional mandate.

Acidre also expressed confidence in Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s ability to pursue corruption cases.

“Ombudsman Remulla enjoys high public support and has shown that he is firm and serious in the fight against corruption,” Acidre added. “If there is evidence, the proper institutions remain open to act.”

Acidre’s remarks highlight the administration’s stance that investigations remain possible despite the ICI’s closure, provided credible evidence is presented.
