ADIONG OPTIMISTIC HOUSE WILL PASS ANTI-POLITICAL DYNASTY BILL

Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, chair of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, expressed confidence that Congress could act on the proposed anti-political dynasty law before the current session ends.

“Hopefully, we can pass it on third reading before the break,” Adiong said, as his committee prepared for a public consultation in Cebu following last week’s session in Carmona, Cavite.

Another consultation is set in Cagayan de Oro, with feedback expected to shape the final draft of the measure.

At present, 24 bills have been filed in the House seeking to enforce the constitutional ban on political dynasties.

Proposals differ on the scope of restrictions, ranging from relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity, to those extending the ban up to the fourth degree.

Lawmakers face a tight schedule, with plenary adjournment slated for March 21 and resumption on May 4, leaving limited time to advance the measure before the break.
