AFP CHIEF: CIDG STUDYING POSSIBLE CHARGES VS RETIRED GENERALS CALLING FOR UPRISING

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is now studying possible charges against retired generals who have been calling for an uprising against the government, according to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.

In an interview, Brawner said the investigation will not only cover the retired generals but also other individuals who have been openly urging a coup or any form of destabilization against the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The calls for revolt reportedly stemmed from anger and frustration among some former military officials and individuals over the alleged corruption in the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) flood control projects, which have drawn public scrutiny involving certain contractors and government officials.

Brawner appealed to the public to stop spreading such calls for rebellion, emphasizing that these actions do not contribute to national progress or stability.

He also clarified that while he shares the public’s frustration over corruption, the AFP remains united and professional amid the political noise.
