The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reaffirmed its loyalty to the Constitution amid circulating rumors of an alleged coup attempt against the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
In a media interview on Friday, November 14, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said the military remains professional and disciplined despite calls from certain groups urging soldiers to join rallies or support alleged destabilization efforts.
“We remain professional.
He stressed that the AFP will abide by the rule of law and will not partake in any unconstitutional acts.
“Ang Armed Forces of the Philippines ay hindi gagawa ng unconstitutional activites. […] We will stick to the rule of law at hindi po tayo lalabag dito.
The Palace earlier expressed full confidence in both the AFP and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to uphold their duties, despite reports that some retired officials have been encouraging the military to withdraw support from the Marcos administration.
