Malacañang said Tuesday that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has begun monitoring and validating reports of a supposed destabilization plot against the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., following social media claims linking Vice President Sara Duterte and other personalities to the alleged movement.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the AFP’s intelligence unit was verifying information initially shared by broadcaster Ramon Tulfo, who alleged that Duterte, her brother Rep. Paolo Duterte, and former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson were among those financing efforts to undermine the government.
“Ayon po sa AFP, sa mga ganitong klaseng mga sinasabi… mino-monitor, inaalam ang katotohanan,” Castro said, adding that online claims must be validated first.
She said the intelligence community was handling the matter, emphasizing that Marcos would act promptly if the threat proved credible.
“Kung mayroon silang makikitang dapat na talagang pagtuunan ng pansin, ito naman po ay hindi tutulugan ng ating Pangulo,” she said.
Castro added that there was still no conclusion that any law had been violated, but an investigation was ongoing to determine whether the activities fall within freedom of expression or destabilization efforts.
