Former DPWH Bulacan First District Engineer Henry Alcantara on Friday turned over ₱110 million in cash to the government as part of restitution tied to the ongoing flood control corruption scandal.
“Ngayon po ay nasasaksihan nyo ang cash turnover. Ito po ay parte ng restitution… ng what appears to be 110 million pesos (in) cash,” Department of Justice (DOJ) Acting Secretary Fredderick Vida told reporters.
The money was submitted through Alcantara’s legal counsel and formally logged by the DOJ.
According to Vida, the Bureau of Treasury and Land Bank will conduct validation of the cash later in the day.
Alcantara is among the alleged “BGC Boys” or Bulacan Group of Contractors accused of siphoning off billions meant for flood control initiatives in Bulacan and surrounding provinces.
He currently faces criminal and tax evasion complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman for approving and executing multiple anomalous and purported “ghost” projects.
