AQUINO TO PROBE FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS AMID RISING DEATH TOLL

Senator Bam Aquino has confirmed plans to file a resolution seeking a Senate investigation into the flood control projects of past and current administrations, particularly those under President Bongbong Marcos Jr. and former President Rodrigo Duterte.

This comes in the wake of the recent devastation caused by Typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong—intensified by the enhanced southwest monsoon—which claimed the lives of 25 individuals across affected regions.

“Flood control ang pangako, pero flood out of control ang inabot ng taumbayan. Kailangang busisiin natin nang husto kung nagamit ba sa tama ang bilyun-bilyong pisong pondo para sa flood control,” Aquino said in a statement.

He further added, “It would also be good to know if the flood control plans are effective in the first place, so that the government would not waste the people’s money.”

Aquino emphasized the need to scrutinize the utilization of the ₱360 billion allocation for flood control projects in the 2025 national budget, questioning the impact of such programs on the ground.

The senator plans to file the resolution on July 28, coinciding with the opening of the 20th Congress, to formally initiate the investigation.
