Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga has called for the abolition of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), claiming that the agency’s actions and leadership could lead to global conflict.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 28, Barzaga alleged that the PCG could “start World War III.”
“The Philippine Coast Guard will become the cause of World War III,” Barzaga wrote.
He accused the PCG of having a “corrupt leadership,” particularly criticizing the appointment of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as Vice Admiral and Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Secretary Larry Gadon as Rear Admiral.
“The Philippine Coast Guard is a corrupt establishment that used to provide high ranking positions to undeserving officials such as Vice Admiral Martin Romualdez and PCG Rear Admiral Larry Gadon,” Barzaga said.
“Such promotions to individuals that lacks the physical, mental, and moral excellence that is expected of our nation’s officers. Only further enforces, in my belief, that the Philippine Coast Guard is inherently one of the most corrupt branches of our government,” he added.
Barzaga further accused the PCG of escalating tensions in the West Philippine Sea, alleging that the agency was interfering in China and Taiwan’s affairs.
“The Coast Guard has been constantly escalating tensions in the West Philippine Sea with the idiotic goal in interfering with China and Taiwan’s eventual reunification,” he said.
He went on to say that the PCG’s involvement in such matters “has nothing to do with the Filipino people” and could risk Filipino lives.
“A point of conflict which has nothing to do with the Filipino people. Where the PCG plans to waste millions of Filipino lives,” he stressed.
Because of these reasons, Barzaga said the PCG should be abolished, claiming that it wastes public funds and no longer serves the nation’s interest.
“There’s no future for the Philippines with the PCG holding power over our military. And since the PCG no longer serves the interest of the Filipino people, I move to call the abolition of the Philippine Coast Guard as they are a waste for our government funds,” he concluded.
