The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed criminal charges against the controversial contractor couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya, along with an official of St. Gérard Construction Gen. Contractor and Development Corporation, for alleged non-payment of taxes amounting to ₱7,182,172,532.20.
BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. announced the filing of the case during a press conference in Manila on Wednesday, October 8.
According to the BIR, investigations revealed that the Discaya couple failed to pay their income taxes from 2018 to 2021. The agency also discovered that they neither filed excise tax returns nor paid excise taxes for nine luxury vehicles registered under their names, based on records from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The BIR said the case forms part of its ongoing campaign against large-scale tax evaders, both individuals and corporations, as part of efforts to strengthen revenue collection and ensure fairness in the country’s tax system.
The Discayas are among the contractors currently being investigated for their alleged involvement in irregular flood control projects.
