BOC EYES SEIZURE OF 40 LUXURY CARS LINKED TO THE DISCAYAS

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is set to launch a full-blown investigation into at least 40 luxury cars allegedly owned by government contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya, whose company has been flagged for bagging a significant share of flood control projects nationwide.

According to BOC officials, the probe will focus on scrutinizing the documents and importation records of the vehicles to determine whether the cars entered the country legally and if all corresponding duties and taxes were properly paid.

The investigation comes after the Discayas’ opulent car collection gained public attention when it was featured in a media interview, sparking outrage and questions on how contractors tied to government projects amassed such wealth. That exposure prompted authorities to put their transactions under the microscope.

The couple owns Alpha and Omega General Contractor & Development Corporation, one of the 15 contractors personally named by President Bongbong Marcos (PBBM) in relation to controversial flood control projects. Their company reportedly secured around 20% of all flood control projects nationwide — a staggering share that has fueled suspicion.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno confirmed the bureau’s course of action:

“Since this information is now open, I would order a probe this week.”

He further explained BOC’s legal limitations when conducting operations:

“If it is a house or a residential, we would be needing the courts… I would have this checked immediately. This is the first time I have heard about it.”

Nepomuceno also warned that the bureau could seize the luxury cars should it be proven that the Discayas failed to pay the correct duties and taxes, in line with existing laws and regulations.

With the couple already under the spotlight for their massive government contracts and lavish lifestyle, the BOC’s investigation could potentially expose deeper irregularities in both customs compliance and the awarding of public works projects.
