BOC SUSPENDS MAKATI EXPRESS CARGO FOR 60 DAYS OVER UNPAID TAXES

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has ordered a 60-day suspension of Makati Express Cargo Inc. (MECI) from operating as a deconsolidator or consignee due to its failure to pay outstanding taxes and duties.

In a statement released on Friday, October 31, the BOC said the suspension followed MECI’s failure to respond to a Show Cause Order issued on October 23, 2025, which required the company to settle its unpaid obligations and reply within three days.

“The BOC will continue to enforce accountability and protect the welfare of our overseas Filipino workers,” said Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.
“We remain committed to ensuring that all forwarding companies comply with customs laws and that our fellow Filipinos can trust that their hard-earned shipments reach their families safely and without delay,” he added.

Prior to the suspension, reports revealed that MECI had numerous containers of Balikbayan boxes left unclaimed and unpaid at several ports, including Cebu, Manila International Container Port, and Davao.

Some of the containers were found to have been stored for long periods, while others had already been declared abandoned.

The BOC said it will explore possible referral of the case to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for appropriate action regarding MECI’s business accreditation.
