The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is set to auction 13 luxury vehicles owned by contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) announced on Thursday, October 16.
According to ICI Executive Director Brian Hosaka, BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno informed the commission that the vehicles lacked proper importation documents.
“Which now gives them right, gives the right for them to auction it off. So in a couple of weeks, I think, according to Commissioner Nepomuceno,” Hosaka said.
He added, “They’re just going through the process of approval with the DOF and they will be auctioning this off. In that case, there will be an immediate recovery.”
Earlier this October, the BOC issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the 13 vehicles due to irregularities in the documents submitted by the Discaya couple.
Authorities estimated that around ₱100 million in unpaid taxes were incurred during the purchase of the vehicles. The BOC also reported that most of the seized luxury cars had no recorded payment of duties and taxes.
