Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Jojo Cadiz has stepped down from his post following allegations tying him to anomalous flood control projects.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed on December 5 that Cadiz has submitted his resignation, though its acceptance remains unclear.
“Sa aking pagkakaalam siya po ay nagsubmit na ng kanyang resignation,” Castro said.
Despite this, DOJ Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon noted that Cadiz has been “continuously reporting” for work.
He clarified that any resignation was submitted directly to the Office of the President, not through the Justice Secretary.
“Whatever application for resignation was submitted, [it was] directly to the appointing authority… It was not coursed through the Secretary of Justice,” he said.
Fadullon added that the department will wait for formal complaints before opening an investigation.
Cadiz’s name surfaced after former Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co claimed the official received cash on behalf of President Bongbong Marcos—an allegation Malacañang has neither confirmed nor denied. When asked if Cadiz is an associate or aide of Marcos, Castro said she could not confirm this.
The President has repeatedly denied Co’s accusations and urged the former lawmaker to return to the Philippines and face charges connected to the flood control scandal.
