CALILUNG: MARCOS SHOULD NOT IGNORE NEGATIVE SURVEY RESULTS

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. should not dismiss the recent negative survey results on his performance, University of Santo Tomas (UST) Assistant Professor Froilan Calilung said in an interview on January 2.

“The President can always dispel these surveys as something as insignificant but the surveys are necessarily derived for better governance and more decisive actions,” Calilung explained.

He added, “So if the President really wants to salvage whatever political capitalist left of him, I think they need to take it seriously.”

Calilung emphasized that reputable firms Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia recently released findings showing a significant drop in Marcos’ ratings.

“We need to understand that these are two reputable survey firms—SWS and Pulse Survey Asia. Kung makikita natin, talagang significant ‘yong tip doon sa kaniyang survey ranking,” he said.

“Basically, negative 3 and negative 14… kung titingnan natin ‘yong disparity between trust and distrust. So this is really big,” he clarified.

He stressed that the surveys mirror Marcos’ current leadership performance.

“The President cannot simply… this aside as something that will not affect his performance because, really, this is a manifestation. Sinasalamin nito ‘yong kasalukuyang performance na meron siya,” Calilung noted.

“This is very-very problematic [on] his part,” he concluded.

SWS’ latest survey in November 2025 showed Marcos’ net trust rating at -3%.
