Several personalities and groups staged motorcade caravans on Saturday to demand the resignation of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and press for accountability among corrupt public officials.
Participants drove along major thoroughfares, honking their horns and displaying tarpaulins calling for unity against corruption and the return of allegedly stolen public funds. Some motorists joined in, signaling support as the caravans passed.
One group led by former Anakalusugan Party-list Representative Mike Defensor traveled along EDSA from White Plains to Monumento, looped through Commonwealth Avenue, and ended at the House of Representatives.
Another caravan, organized by former Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon Jr., moved from Parañaque along C5 to Marcos Highway before concluding at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.
Malacañang, however, questioned the credibility of the organizers.
“Yung tahimik sa lantarang korapsyon sa nakaraang administrasyon, nasaan sila noon? Naging enabler ba sa pagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan noon? Naging kasabwat din ba? Huwag magpakahipokrito. Kailangan natin ang mga taong totoong lumalaban sa korapsyon,” Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a statement.
“Pinapaalam namin ang tunay na kalagayan ng Pangulo, huwag silang bulag o bingi. Huwag din silang manatiling source ng fake news,” she added.
Organizers said the caravans were meant to show unity and sustain calls for accountability.
“Noong isang linggo, ‘Impeach PBBM.’ Ngayon, patuloy ang panawagan na ‘PBBM resign’!”
Defensor said during the event.
The groups later dispersed peacefully after reaching the Batasan complex.
