CASIÑO URGES MARCOS, DUTERTE TO STEP DOWN AMID ‘CRISIS OF LEGITIMACY’

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Chairperson and former Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño on Thursday called on President Bongbong Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte to resign, arguing that worsening corruption scandals and escalating infighting between their political blocs have made them unfit to govern.

He warned that the country now faces a “crisis of legitimacy” rooted in partisan rivalry and systemic corruption.

“I think the current government cannot resolve that crisis because the crisis itself is the government… it’s the widespread systemic corruption in government,” Casiño said, noting that even businesses acknowledge that “it reaches all the way to the top.”

He said Filipinos should no longer be forced to choose between dominant political dynasties.

“’Wag na lang, ‘wag tayong mamili. Why are we always being made to choose between two evils?” he said, adding that both families have “made the country worse.”

Casiño said Bayan is pushing for a National Transition Council to implement reforms, form a new government, and lead to fresh elections—steps he believes are essential to ending decades of dynasty-driven governance.

He added that the country “needs destabilizing… to change it and to improve it,” clarifying this must be done through constitutional means.

He argued that impeachment is no longer a meaningful accountability mechanism, calling it “bastardized,” and cited the stalled impeachment efforts against Vice President Duterte.

Casiño also questioned Marcos’ control over his own administration, referencing former Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin’s claim that someone outside Malacañang told him to step down.

“Well, that shows that the President is not in control… that’s a very worrisome development,” he said.

Bayan is among the groups organizing nationwide Bonifacio Day protests on November 30 to demand accountability over the flood-control scandal and alleged widespread corruption in government.
