CBCP URGES FILIPINO FAMILIES TO FOCUS ON PRAYER THIS HOLY WEEK

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines has reminded Filipino families to place prayer and spiritual reflection at the center of Holy Week, rather than treating it solely as a time for social gatherings.

CBCP President and Lipa Archbishop Gilbert Garcera emphasized that the solemn observance should return to its deeper religious significance, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He encouraged the faithful to use the period for conversion, renewal, and strengthening family faith.

“I hope that during this week, it’s really a time for the family praying together, going to confession, receiving the Lord, and making sure that at the end of this week, Christ is alive in our midst,” Garcera said.

Garcera urged Catholics to reflect on their shortcomings, seek forgiveness, and participate in religious activities such as attending Mass and receiving Communion.

He also highlighted the importance of community, encouraging parishes and neighborhoods to unite in prayer and mutual support.

“I encourage you, my dear brothers and sisters, to make sure that we respond with reflection, a moment of conversion, and a moment of rejoicing because the Lord is alive in us,” Garcera added, reminding families to embrace the spiritual essence of the season.
