Former Ilocos Sur governor and businessman Chavit Singson is weighing a possible Senate bid in the 2028 national elections, citing the need for stronger voices in the chamber amid recent corruption controversies.
In a television interview on Thursday, Singson pointed to alleged irregularities in flood control projects and claims by 18 former soldiers that money was delivered to high-ranking officials.
“Iniisip ko na rin na tumakbo uling senator dahil sa mga pangyayaring ito, kailangan may magsalita sa Senate,” he said.
Though he stopped short of a formal announcement, Singson acknowledged that supporters have been encouraging him to run.
I might also,” he added.
The 84-year-old political figure previously ruled out another Senate campaign. He had filed his candidacy for the May 2025 elections but withdrew months before election day due to health concerns after being hospitalized for pneumonia.
Despite not laying out a specific legislative platform, Singson emphasized the need for closer Senate scrutiny of alleged misuse of flood control funds.
Pero this time talagang iniisip ko,” he said.
