COMELEC ISSUES SHOW CAUSE ORDER TO MARCOLETA OVER UNDECLARED DONATIONS

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has confirmed that it has issued a show cause order to Senate Deputy Minority Leader Rodante Marcoleta regarding alleged undeclared donations in connection with the 2025 national elections.

According to reports, COMELEC Chairperson George Garcia said on Monday, November 24, that the order was released last Friday, November 21.

“No’ng Friday na-issue na [ang] show cause order para [sa] paliwanag niya tungkol sa discrepancy na nakita sa SALN at SOCE,” Garcia stated.

Garcia explained that Marcoleta has ten days to address what the commission described as discrepancies between his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) and his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).

“Again, pinagpapaliwanag pa lang naman,” he added, clarifying that the purpose of the order is to provide Marcoleta an opportunity to clarify the matter.

Marcoleta previously explained in an interview why he declared zero contributions for his 2025 senatorial campaign despite reporting expenses amounting to ₱112 million. However, questions were raised after his SALN reflected only ₱51.96 million.

As of this writing, Marcoleta has yet to release a statement on the COMELEC’s directive and the ten-day period given to respond.
