The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has begun reviewing the Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) of all senators and party-list representatives from the 2025 elections, as part of its continuing effort to ensure transparency and compliance with election laws.
COMELEC Chairman Atty. George Erwin Garcia said the commission will not spare anyone—even candidates related to contractors who contributed to their campaigns—if violations are found.
“Walang pinipili ang COMELEC sa mga kakasuhan, kahit pa kamag-anak ng kandidato ang nasabing kontratista,”
Garcia emphasized.
The statement came after questions were raised regarding Senator Bong Go and alleged links between his family’s CLTG Builders, a government contractor, and St. Gerrard Construction, owned by Curlee and Sarah Discaya, who are under Senate investigation for irregular flood control projects.
Earlier, the COMELEC revealed that nine construction companies were identified as donors to candidates in the last election cycle.
Garcia clarified that while owning a construction firm or having family ties to contractors does not automatically disqualify a candidate from running for office, donations from companies with government contracts are another matter entirely.
“Iba na ang usapan kung nagbigay ng donasyon ang kumpanyang may kontrata sa gobyerno,” the COMELEC chief stressed, noting that such acts could potentially violate existing election and anti-corruption laws.
The poll body is expected to release its findings after completing its review of all SOCE submissions in the coming weeks.
