Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc. and one of the top contractors of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for flood control projects, has appeared before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) following his admission that he contributed ₱30 million to the 2022 senatorial campaign of Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
According to the COMELEC, Lubiano attended a hearing on Wednesday, September 24, accompanied by his lawyer, where he submitted documents and explained his earlier disclosure.
The poll body said it will also summon and invite Escudero, as well as other politicians who allegedly received campaign contributions from government contractors, to shed light on the matter.
The development comes after a Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) report revealed that several national candidates, including President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte, allegedly received millions in campaign donations from government contractors.
