DAM OPERATIONS TIGHTEN AS STORM UWAN APPROACHES LUZON

Three major dams in Luzon have begun releasing water as precautionary measures ahead of the expected heavy rains from Severe Tropical Storm Uwan, which has now entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

According to the latest update, water elevation at Angat Dam in Bulacan reached 211.14 meters, slightly above its normal level of 210 meters, prompting the opening of one spill gate. Ipo Dam is also nearing its spilling level, while La Mesa Dam in Quezon City remains below the overflow point.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has advised communities along the Angat River to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Authorities are also closely monitoring other major dams in Northern and Central Luzon, including Ambuklao, Binga, San Roque, Pantabangan, and Magat, as Uwan’s heavy rainfall could lead to additional gate openings.

The possible release of excess water may affect low-lying areas in Bulacan, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Isabela, and Ifugao, where flooding risks are expected to rise.

Residents are urged to prepare and stay alert for further advisories from local disaster officials.
